Birds make their homes in everyone's garden,
But, although they have babies, no one gives them a pardon.
And the bees
Flit around ignoring everyone's pleas.
Why are we always at war,
I wonder?
A spider's careful handiwork
Is soon squished by a young child's foot.
A sandcastle made with so much care
Is torn down by waves, beyond repair.
Why do we work only to be broken down,
I wonder?
A blade a grass among many other blades,
Is stomped down, but his spirit does not fade.
In rainy April, with gloom and dismay,
Flowers try to bloom to brighten the day.
Why do we help when there is nothing to gain,
I wonder?
We do things because we look for challenges each day
To show we can help anyone in anyway.
Don't dwell on the past, look into the future,
Whether you paws, feathers, or fur.
And that is the reason why.

Literary Elements-
One literary element I used was end rhyme. End rhyme is a rhyme that occurs at the end of two or more lines of a verse. For example, in the second stanza,
"A spider's careful handiwork
Is soon squished by a young child's foot.
A sandcastle made with so much care
Is torn down by waves, beyond repair.
Why do we work only to be broken down,
I wonder?"
The end of the first line and second line rhyme, and the end of the third and fourth line rhyme. I used this because it gives a slight tune and pattern to the poem.
I also used assonance in the poem. Assonance is the repetition of the vowel sound. This occurs in the second stanza on the first line:
"A spider's careful handiwork..."
The "a" sound in "careful" is repeated in the word "handiwork". I used this because it provides a connection between the words, and it flows better.
Other Literary Elements- Hyperbole.
